Designing solutions for life-saving impact

Our client Rapid Response Revival is making life-saving technology accessible with the CellAED® – a personal portable smart defibrillator. Our role in the project was multifaceted – we provided guidance and support throughout the smart automated defibrillator development process and played an active part in designing and building the enclosure, case, and wall mount. Specifically, we took on the industrial design, including the visual appearance, usability, and mechanical functionality as part of the portable personal defibrillator design.

Making Every Second Count

When an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) occurs, time is critical. Our challenge was the design and development of a personal defibrillator to be portable, affordable, and easy to use. The size, shape, and graphics make it accessible and intuitive in a high-stress situation for people with limited or no medical experience. Bold colours and graphics depict the three-step process, empowering users to activate and administer life-saving technology without complicated instructions.

Saving lives made simple

One of the most crucial aspects of our work was meeting the CE-MDD compliance deadline. We ensured all designs and documents were submitted on time for compliance approval and worked within our client’s ISO13485 system, while also following Pilotfish’s ISO9001 quality management system. Our presence in Taiwan allowed us to be on-site to build tools and parts, and work with contract manufacturers while the Rapid Response Revival team were in Australia. Our expertise in personal portable smart defibrillator development helped reduce time and costs, ensuring a shorter time to market, better ROI, and faster development. With Pilotfish's help, the CellAED® was developed quickly, turning the design into fully mechanically engineered parts, producing real plastic components for compliance testing, and ultimately bringing the product to market.
